I served my ‘apprenticeship’ training with the Inland Revenue in Northampton and after 5 years I joined a large national firm of accountants, where I spent 14 years, gaining a series of promotions up to the highest grade of management. Having switched from ‘gamekeeper’ to ‘poacher’ I moved up through tax compliance to tax planning and then across to financial planning. I joined the partners of a long established firm of Stockbrokers in the Midlands to set up a tax and financial planning company to complement their business where I became a fully qualified IFA. Eventually I became Managing Director. Wanting to have greater control of my own business I later joined forces with and acquired a majority shareholding in the Northampton IFA, Kingston. Other than playing a major part in running the business, my staff and I also look after the investment and pension affairs of a large portfolio of clients who are spread geographically across the whole country. I also specialise in Tax Planning and Trust work, am a Trustee of around 70 Trusts and act as an Executor and Power of Attorney. I am a member of the Personal Financial Society. I am the President of a Spanish Community in Menorca which provides me with the experience to advise our clients who own Spanish property.
